Cao extends F3 lead as Ferrucci stars again

Sunday, August 31 2014

Martin Cao extended his Cooper Tires British F3 Championship lead at Brands Hatch today (Sunday) with a race victory, whilst Santino Ferrucci took a second win of the weekend on his championship debut.

Cao made a great start to lead the second race of the weekend, but Dan Wells endured a torrid opening lap, losing places to fellow front-row starter Matt Rao and race one winner Ferrucci, as Max Marshall, Camren Kaminsky and Peter Li followed on behind. From there on it was a straightforward run to victory for Cao, who finished almost four seconds ahead of title rival Rao.

Ferrucci lost touch with the leaders to finish over 12 seconds down, with Wells remaining in fourth place. He fared better than Marshall, whose race ended at Druids with a third of the distance remaining. Kaminsky and Li completed the distance in fifth and sixth places respectively.

5, Camren Kaminsky, USA, Double R, +33.863s

Ferrucci made a great start to lead the final race of the weekend, with Cao slotting into second place in a repeat of yesterday's opening encounter. Li took an early third place with Rao, Wells, Kaminsky and Marshall falling in line behind.

As the race progressed, Marshall fell off the pace of the cars ahead and Li dropped out altogether after his impressive start. Cao tried his best to catch Ferrucci, whilst Wells and Kaminsky enjoyed a close battle for fourth place.

Ferrucci was not to be denied, however, and set the fastest lap of the race on his final tour, taking a second win on his series debut.
