Hyman takes opening 2014 pole at Silverstone

Saturday, April 26 2014

HHC Motorsport's Raoul Hyman will start on pole position for the first BRDC F4 race of the season on the Silverstone GP circuit.

Hyman figured at the top of the standings throughout the session, held in wet conditions, engaging in a battle for pole with HHC team mate Sennan Fielding. The pair were separated by 0.2 seconds and were over a second clear of nearest competitor, Hillspeed's Gustavo Lima.

Karting graduate George Russell was fourth for Lanan Racing, pipping Douglas Motorsport's Diego Menchaca to the position by just 0.006s.

Hillspeed's Rahul Mayer will line-up an impressive sixth on the grid, his highest ever position on an F4 grid. Winter Championship race-winner Will Palmer put in a late lap to set the seventh quickest time, ahead of fellow Ginetta Junior graduate Tom Jackson, driving for Chris Dittmann Racing.

World karting champion Charlie Eastwood was ninth fastest for Douglas Motorsport, ahead of testing pace setter Nicolas Beer, driving for Sean Walkinshaw Racing.

Pole position for Hyman secured him the first prize from the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup, which returns for 2014, scooping a £150 prize and a trophy.

Speaking afterwards, Hyman commented: "It was a great session for us. We managed to get out of the pits first which was crucial and it was a good call from the team and myself to get to the end of the pit lane and making sure we had a clear track. There was a lot of standing water on the track and following someone else's spray would have made it worse.

"I was able to improve my lap times every time around and they were big improvements and it felt good to constantly see P1 on my pit board. The first race of the season is next up hopefully we can carry through this form, and hopefully it will be dry. I'm overdue a race win and I will be doing everything I can to get it!"
