Jordan leads the champions as BTCC title chase closes up

Tuesday, September 17 2013

Andrew Jordan has taken over the lead of a close Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title race as the series heads into its final two rounds, with the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit hosting the finale on 12/13 October.

A pair of victories for the Pirtek Honda driver at Northampton's Rockingham circuit has given the 24-year-old a 30 point lead over reigning champion Gordon Shedden. However the Scotsman is just three points ahead of eBay Motors' Colin Turkington, who also enjoyed a strong weekend.

Meanwhile it was a tough meeting for triple champion Matt Neal, who scored just a handful of points after a spin in race one and mechanical trouble in the second encounter. A spirited performance from the back of the grid yielded a top ten finish in the final contest of the day, but he has dropped from first place to fourth, just one point behind Turkington.

Despite taking a commanding pole position, double champion Jason Plato was unable to make inroads into the leaders, but he remains well within striking distance. A good result in the penultimate round at Silverstone, where the MG is expected to be strong, is likely to result in an unprecedented five-way battle for the title at Brands Hatch!

In addition to the title contenders, there are several potential race winners in the field. Rob Austin took his maiden win at Rockingham and he joins Sam Tordoff, Mat Jackson and Aron Smith as candidates for victories, whilst Tom Onslow-Cole, Adam Morgan and Dave Newsham are also expected to be fighting for the top step of the podium.

In addition to BTCC action, you can also see Renault UK Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Juniors and Formula Ford action, with many titles still to be settled. A free pitlane walkabout and off-track attractions including family-themed fun will make this an event to remember!
