Five-way battle for the BTCC title heads to Brands Hatch!

Monday, September 30 2013

The 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will go down to the wire on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 12/13 October, with five drivers competing for the title!

All four of the BTCC's currently-competing champion drivers will enter the season-closing round with a chance of winning Britain's biggest car racing series. However the standings are led by 24-year-old Andrew Jordan, who will be taking part in his second shootout for overall honours.

With just three races and 67 points on offer, reigning Independents' champion Jordan leads triple title-winner Matt Neal by 34 points. Neal, who could equal Touring Car legend Andy Rouse's record of four crowns at Brands Hatch, is just one point ahead of Honda Racing team mate and current BTCC king Gordon Shedden, who won the third race at the recent Silverstone round.

A late retirement in that race leaves returning 2009 champion Colin Turkington a further 13 points adrift, however the Northern Irishman has starred in his comeback season with the brand new eBay Motors BMW 1-Series. One point behind him is 2001 and 2010 winner Jason Plato, who has momentum on his side after a victory double at Silverstone.

The quintet has taken all but two of the race wins this season, however there are at least ten potential winners in the field. This includes Plato's team mate Sam Tordoff, Adam Morgan, who has impressed in his second season plus resurgent Airwaves Racing trio Mat Jackson, Aron Smith and Tom Onslow-Cole. Last year's final round produced two new victors, which included Smith, and the final races of the year are amongst the most hotly-contested of the season.

The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is a firm favourite amongst the drivers and provides fantastic racing, from the stadium atmosphere of the Indy loop, to the straights and high-speed corners on the Grand Prix section. In addition to the final round of the BTCC, you can also see champions crowned in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Renault UK Clio Cup. The closing races of the Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Juniors and Formula Ford GB series will also be fought in Kent.

In addition to the entertainment on track, there will be a free pitwalk on the Sunday, plus fun for all the family including a fair and free children's adventure playground. There will also be big TV screens in place, ensuring you miss none of the action as the cars head out into the woods!
