Huge entry for Formula Ford Festival this weekend

Tuesday, October 22 2013

A bumper entry of 64 drivers will compete for this weekend's Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch (26-27 October), which will recall the event's golden era.

Cars entered for the event cover much of the 1980s and 90s, plus the early years of the 21st century, which saw some of the most competitive contests in the history of the festival. The list includes a healthy contingent from Ireland and mainland Europe, plus guest appearances from former festival winner Joey Foster, Autosport journalist Ben Anderson, and former single seater ace Richard Tarling.

The list also features a wide range of chassis, from the once-ubiquitous Van Diemens, to cars from Swift, Ray, Mygale, Spectrum, Quest and Crossle amongst others. The Kent-engined category dominates the list, with a combined field of Zetec and Duratec cars racing separately. The Formula Ford Festival is a traditional highlight of the season at Brands Hatch, with breathtakingly-close racing almost guaranteed as the drivers battle for victory!

There will also be a strong contingent of cars from the support categories, which also features a Ford theme. Across four separate contests, 79 race-prepared Fiestas will take to the track, including the Irish Fiesta Trophy, covering several generations of the popular hatchback.

Meanwhile 67 Sports 2000 entries will compete across three categories. These cover historic, Pinto and Duratec-engined cars for a class that was originally created as the sportscar equivalent of Formula Ford.
