Byrne tops warm up as Brookes crashes out ahead of race one

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne kicked off the final day of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season at Brands Hatch proving that he is determined to emerge victorious as the defending champion topped warm up ahead of Josh Brookes.

Byrne and Brookes had switched positions at the top of the times throughout the 10 minute session but in the closing stages it was the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider who ended up on top after Brookes crashed out unhurt at Graham Hill Bend in the final minute.

Milwaukee Yamaha were resurgent this morning as James Ellison fired himself up to third in the closing stages of the session ahead of PJ Jacobsen who made it two Tyco Suzukis in the top four. Josh Waters was another rider who had an impressive performance in the morning as he put the Halsall Racing Kawasaki into fifth ahead of Alex Lowes on the Samsung Honda.

Buildbase BMW returned to the top ten with Jon Kirkham and James Westmoreland in seventh and eighth respectively with Jakub Smrz and Freddy Foray completing the top ten ahead of today's opening race.
