British GT Championship set for bumper grid this Easter

Wednesday, March 27 2013

More than 30 stunning supercars will roar into life at Oulton Park this weekend (30 March/1 April) for an Easter celebration of speed. The Avon Tyres British GT Championship season kicks off at the Cheshire circuit with its biggest field for several years with the world's best marques represented.

Fans of Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin and Mercedes will have plenty to celebrate, with many more big names featured on a huge entry list of 34 cars. Amongst the drivers are past and present British Touring Car drivers Michael Caine, Warren Hughes and Johnny Adam, whilst F1 star Mark Blundell returns to race on circuits where he first made his reputation over 25 years ago.

The British GT Championship races take place on Easter Monday, with two one hour events featuring drama-filled pitstops for driver changes. With no driver pairing winning more than two races last season, it's almost impossible to predict who will take the spoils.

In addition to the races, aficionados of high performance will find plenty to excite at the venue, with a supercar display and parade, free pitwalk and a Le Mans-winning Bentley Speed 8 expected to be a major attraction on Easter Monday. Meanwhile younger visitors will enjoy an Easter egg hunt and arts and crafts area.

The GT action is supported by the F3 Cup championship, which will provide high-tech single seater action. Great racing is expected from a large grid featuring up-and-coming racers Alice Powell, Olly Rae and Henry Chart. Last season saw races won by promising drivers Alex Lynn and Red Bull protégé António Felix da Costa.

Saturday will feature the Ginetta GT5 Challenge where Olympic Cycling Gold Medallist Jason Kenny will be starting his debut season of motor racing, whilst there are also races over the weekend for the Volkswagen Racing Cup, MSVT Trackday Trophy and the Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship.

Tickets for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Oulton Park on 30 March and 1 April are available from £18 with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
