Brands Hatch Mini Festival to return in 2014

Sunday, June 23 2013

The BrandsHatch Mini Festival will return in 2014 (date TBC), and promises to be even better following another successful event at Brands Hatch this weekend. Fans turned up in their droves to witness characteristic side by side racing as well as soak up the idiosyncratic festival atmosphere!

Crowds were thrilled by a number of on and off track activities, first and foremost of which was the healthy programme of racing. Minis old and new clashed on track over the two days with the nostalgia of the Pre '66 Mini Anglo French Battle to their modern counterparts in the MINI Challenge showing the evolution of the brand through close track action. Circuit activity wasn't limited to just racing as crowds were thrilled by hair raising stunt driving from Russ Swift as well as demonstration runs from several rare and unique models!

Spectators also got a chance to witness racing celebrities over the weekend with the Chef James Martin, AC/DC lead vocalist Brian Johnson and Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher all trying their hand at Mini racing. Impressively Martin took a victory in the final race of the Festival after competing in three races on the bounce! Johnson was making his second appearance in the car this season having bought it following the Masters Historic Festival, hopefully we'll see him campaigning it again at both meetings next season!

The whole event was perhaps epitomised by the Champion of Mini Festival race which pitted old against new in a handicap event. Both the iconic minis of yore and the newer machinery shared the Indy circuit in a celebration of the long-lasting marque. With the older cars starting ahead the contest proved to be an advert for both close racing and one of motoring's most famous names. This event alone should be enough to pencil the 2014 Mini Festival onto your calendar!

On both days festivities were concluded by the impressive sight of a Mini Car Club Parade. The event was once again strongly supported by Mini owners and all weekend long, both the South Bank and grassy knolls overlooking the Brabham Straight were packed with their cars. It was a wonderful sight to see all of these dedicated fans head out onto the hallowed tarmac and great memories were produced for all!

Off-track activities included a Show and Shine competition, fun fair attractions, trade stalls and mingling with the Owners' Clubs, thus offering the public a superb array of added entertainment. This catering for devoted car enthusiasts, wide-eyed newcomers as well as families is one of the event's strongest facets and it looks set to continue next year!
