Brands Hatch Mini Festival gets underway

Hundreds of Minis are making their way to Brands Hatch for the first day of the 2013 Mini Festival in association with Mini Sport.

The day will be filled with plenty of on-track action starting at 9.00 and finishing with a parade around the circuit for the many Minis of the Mini clubs lining the venue. A mammoth 15 on-track sessions will take place today, starting with the Mighty Minis qualifying at 9am only breaking at 12.05 for Russ Swift to wow the crowds.

The racing then gets underway and again it's the Mighty Minis that kick things off at 12.50. A special Mini display and demonstration breaks up the racing as famous Cooper Ss parade around the circuit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cooper S in style.

Russ Swift will be performing twice during today off the racetrack near the airfield gate, putting a MINI through its paces first at 10.30 and again at 15.00. The rally stage will be busy all day too with passenger rides still available in a Mini Sport competitive-spec rally MINI driven by one of their very experienced rally drivers. Other Minis will be on the stage demonstrating during the day too.

YoungDrive! sessions are still available too from Hailwoods to give your 11-17 year old a first taste of being behind the wheel of a MINI One.

The massive Trade Village will be thriving all day with the rare Minis that took some of the most famous drivers in history took glory as the centrepiece. Paddy Hopkirk's iconic 1964 Monte Carlo rally winning Cooper S is here, as is Graphic, Warwick Banks' BTCC Mini.

Sir John Whitmore will be making an appearance later in the day to join the celebrations of the car that took him to second place in the British Saloon Car Championship after he'd won the championship two years prior in 850 Mini.

Admission costs £22, kids 12 years and under get in free.
