BTCC’s Rob Austin aims to put on a show at Snetterton

Wednesday, July 24 2013

Rob Austin is working hard to get the second half of his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season off to a good start at the Snetterton 300 circuit next month (3/4 August). The team owner and driver had been expected to challenge for wins this year after an initially strong performance at Brands Hatch.

"It's been an emotional rollercoaster," Rob admitted when looking back over a half season that has seen him and team mate Will Bratt occupy 15th and 18th in the points table respectively. "It started off better than we expected but seems to have swiftly dropped off."

The opening Brands Hatch weekend started withe a podium in race one, but ended in a huge impact with the barrier after collecting Dave Newsham's Toyota in the third encounter. This left Rob with a big workload to get the car ready for Donington, and a fifth place at Oulton Park so far has been scant reward for the team's efforts.

Two days of testing at Snetterton have provided the team with a much-needed chance to rediscover the Audi A4's sweet spot. "We're just running through a few things with Will in the car," Rob said on the opening day. "We're hopefully going to sort them out and get back up to where we believe we should be.

"It's all in the geometry really, we've been back and forth, back to the Brands Hatch set up that just doesn't seem to work anywhere else. Hopefully by the end of testing we'll have some answers."

One thing is for certain, Rob will be giving the Snetterton crowd his all next month: "Testing benefits everybody equally really, but it's more a case for us of developing our base set up, so it's suitable and faster overall for every circuit. It's just a case of trying to get a top ten car together at the moment, Give me that and we'll get it to the front somehow."

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton 300 on 3/4 August are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
