Ferrari and Mercedes entries boost British GT grid

Friday, February 15 2013

Leading Avon Tyres British GT Championship teams Preci-Spark Engineering and Rosso Verde have confirmed their continued participation for the 2013 season, increasing the entry list for Oulton Park's opening round on 30 March/1 April to over 26 cars.

Twins Godfrey and David Jones return in the gullwinged Mercedes AMG SLS GT3 that they have campaigned since 2011. It will be their tenth season in the championship, which they won in 2009, and the pair are expected to be joined by a second SLS.

Meanwhile fellow British GT veteran Hector Lester will also be celebrating a decade in the championship at the Rosso Verde outfit. Both team mate Allan Simonsen and the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 have been retained as they chase their first victory since Donington Park in 2010.

The latest entries add further strength to a championship that is looking extremely healthy for 2013, with McLaren, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Ginetta and BMW also amongst the many marques represented on the grid. Round one takes place at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend, with two 60 minute races featuring pitstops for driver changes.

Benjamin Franassovici, Championship Manager said: "We're pleased to welcome back the Jones brothers and Hector and Allan; between them these two pairings have 20 years of British GT experience and they're still quick to this day; something which is noteworthy in the modern GT3 era. We're pleased to have a lot of new entries to the series this year, but crucially, we haven't lost our core base. The Jones' will be prime candidates for our Gentleman Cup, as will Hector. Having Allan in the Ferrari again is special and we're confident we'll have some exciting weekends of racing for our fans this year."

The British GT Championship races at Oulton Park on 30 March/1 April and also visits Snetterton 300 on 15/16 June, and the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 10/11 August. Tickets are available from £18, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click the links.
