Masters Festival recalls classic races at Brands Hatch this May

Monday, April 22 2013

Classic Formula 1 and World Sportscar racing returns to Brands Hatch this late May Bank Holiday weekend (25-27), recalling the golden days of the British Grand Prix and BOAC sportscar events at the Kent circuit.

The FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship recalls the late 60s to mid 80s era when Brands Hatch regularly featured on the Grand Prix calendar. Iconic cars from Lotus, Tyrrell, McLaren and Brabham race wheel-to-wheel once more in the series, which kicked off in Barcelona earlier this month.

A huge grid contested the opening races and another great event is expected in May as the cars return to the majestic Grand Prix circuit, which has retained all of its character since that golden era. It's a chance to celebrate a time recreated in the forthcoming Ron Howard movie 'Rush'.

Meanwhile another great event of the past will be brought back to life, as the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship recalls the BOAC 500 and 1000 classics. The Le Mans-style racers enjoyed a halcyon era in the 60s and early 70s with great names of the sport including Porsche, Ferrari, Lola, Chevron and Ford.

Both categories defined the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit's formative years and established its reputation as one of the world's finest. However drivers of the era would often race in other classes too and the Masters Festival celebrates many of these with encounters for single seaters, GTs and saloons from the 50s to 80s also filling the bill.

The festival atmosphere extends off track too, with displays of classic cars and entertainment for all the family including a fun fair and free face painting for children. Further announcements will be made in the coming weeks with regard to additional attractions.

Tickets for the Masters Festival at Brands Hatch on 25-27 May are available from £18 with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
