Jolyon Palmer claims second GP2 points finish in Bahrain

Sunday, April 21 2013

Jolyon Palmer claimed a second points finish in the GP2 sprint race at Bahrain this morning (Sunday), with sixth place after an eventful few laps at the end of the event.

From fourth on the grid, Jolyon was squeezed into the first corner and had to take avoiding action as Alexander Rossi and Fabio Leimer collided just ahead. This meant that he completed the opening lap in eighth place, running behind James Calado and Leimer in the leading group.

Jolyon passed Calado in the early laps and began to close up on Leimer, running a second behind the feature race winner for much of the distance. Leimer was also unable to pass Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in fifth place as the top four began to pull away, with Sam Bird heading to victory.

Quaife-Hobbs' lap times began to fall off in the closing laps and as Leimer attacked, Jolyon picked an opportunity to make a late dive down the inside and take sixth place. Calado was also through a few corners later and as Quaife-Hobbs took defensive action, Jolyon came under attack from his compatriot, losing the place on the penultimate lap.

Jolyon then passed Quaife-Hobbs to claim sixth place at the line as at the front, Bird just held off Felipe Nasr for the win.

Jolyon's next race is in Barcelona on 10-12 May. You can follow his progress on his website by clicking here.
