Matt Bell to compete as privateer in BRDC F4 Championship

Tuesday, November 06 2012

Hampshire's Matt Bell will race in next year's BRDC Formula 4 Championship, competing as a privateer.
The 22-year-old from Winchester joins the series on the back of a successful debut in the Radical Clubman's Cup, rounding off an impressive season at Snetterton last weekend to finish third overall after securing six wins, six podiums and two new lap records.
He first started karting in 1999 winning multiple karting titles including the Super 1 National Junior Intermediates Championship in 2005. In 2007 he made the move to single seaters with the Formula BMW UK series competing in six races, before going on to compete in the BMW World Final. Budget constraints then unfortunately hampered his racing for the next few seasons with Matt only competing in selected races of Formula Palmer Audi before stopping racing entirely in 2011.
Matt, who will be run by his father Trevor, said: "We're really looking forward to racing next year and can't wait to get our hands on the new F4 car. Having little single seater experience is going to make things a steep learning curve for us against some stiff competition, but our goal is to win and we're certainly not here to make up the numbers!"
Jonathan Palmer, F4 Series Director, said: "I've known Matt since he raced in the FPA Autumn Trophy in 2008 when he finished an impressive fourth in the final race. More recently he's been quick in the Radical Clubman's Cup and I look forward to Matt and his father proving that in F4 privateers can be very competitive."
