Jake Hughes steps up to BRDC Formula 4 with Lanan Racing

Thursday, November 29 2012

Rising kart racing star Jake Hughes will graduate to the BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2013 with Bedfordshire squad Lanan Racing. The 18-year-old from Warwickshire will contest his first full season of car racing when the inaugural season gets underway at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in April.

Hughes only began karting three years ago but proved quick from the outset, finishing ninth with one podium during his debut season in the 2010 Easykart Junior series. A year later he came fifth and finished as top rookie in the Formula Kart Grand Prix Super 1 Series with seven top five finishes. This was followed by a seventh in the Easykart Senior Category, despite missing rounds through injury. He capped off his year with a prize Formula Renault 2.0 test with Manor Competition in Barcelona.

This year he was crowned the 2012 Easykart E Plate champion and made his single seater debut in the Formula Renault BARC Winter series at Rockingham, securing a points finish in only his second race.

Hughes said: "I'm really looking forward to racing next year as the F4 series looks set to be a great championship with the kudos of the BRDC and Jonathan Palmer's MSV Group behind it. Being my first full season in cars I know it's going to be a challenge but I'm in it to win and I'm keen to get started with Lanan Racing who have really impressed me."

Lanan Racing Team Principal Graham Johnson added: "We're pleased to welcome Jake to the squad and know he's going to make a big impression next year. Jake is the first of two signings, the second of which we'll be confirming shortly, while we've also enlisted Joey Foster and McLaren BRDC Autosport Award finalist Alex Lynn to act as our development drivers for 2013."
