Seeley scorches to top spot in the Snetterton sunshine

Friday, May 25 2012

Alastair Seeley set the pace in the opening MCE British Superbike Championship free practice session in the sunshine at Snetterton this morning as the Tyco Suzuki rider pushed ahead of his opposition in the final ten minutes.

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane 'Shakey' Byrne had been the pace setter in the early stages of the opening free practice but with nine minutes remaining the 'Wizard' set a lap to move from seventh to first. Padgetts Honda's Ian Lowry was also closing in, moving second in the final minutes of the session to be the top placed Honda on track and relegating Byrne to third.

Graeme Gowland was fourth fastest after a strong start to the session for the WFR Honda team; his team-mate Alex Lowes had run as high as second but dropped to fifth after a crash at the Bomb Hole whilst James Westmoreland also tipped off at Montreal cutting the session short in the final stages.

Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty set the pace at the Norfolk circuit pre-season and after running inside the top three for a long period in the session he dropped to sixth at the chequered flag whilst team-mate Jon Kirkham made his track return in 16th.

Luca Scassa was seventh ahead of the Supersonic BMW of Patric Muff with Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill and Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki's Chris Walker completing the top ten. Josh Brookes and Noriyuki Haga were 11th and 14th respectively.
