Byrne up at Snetterton as ‘Shakey’ tops times

Saturday, May 26 2012

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne snatched the advantage in the final free practice session at Snetterton this morning as the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki fired ahead of Ian Lowry on the Padgetts Honda with the countdown now on to this race one grid deciding qualifying session.

Byrne had upped the pace from the start of the session; powering ahead of Tommy Bridewell in the early stages but the Supersonic BMW rider maintained his position with a strong third place at the chequered flag after Lowry pushed ahead to go fastest with eight minutes remaining. Byrne though had one final run that put him back at the top of the pack ahead of qualifying this afternoon in the heat at Snetterton.

Alex Lowes had a resurgent session in fourth for WFR Honda with team-mate Graeme Gowland Gowland also inside the top ten in sixth. Josh Brookes fired the Tyco Suzuki in to fifth whilst Alastair Seeley was back on track after his crash yesterday to end 14th.

Swan Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga was seventh as he worked to overcome the issues he was having with feeling yesterday with defending champion Tommy Hill in ninth. Michael Laverty, the fastest rider from yesterday, was eighth whilst Luca Scassa completed the top ten.
