Fontana leads the way in session three

Wednesday, March 28 2012

Alex Fontana was the pace-setter during the third Formula Two test session at Silverstone GP circuit with the Swiss racer just edging out Markus Pommer by 0.030s ahead of third placed Dino Zamparelli.

With temperatures continuing to rise, it was morning pace-setter Pommer who led the way during the early part of the session lapping in the low 1:50s, closely followed by 19-year-old Zamparelli and Iranian Kourosh Khani.

2010 F2 champion Dean Stoneman was making good on his return to lie fourth quickest just ahead of fellow countrymen Luciano Bacheta and Hector Hurst.

European F3 Open champion Fontana, who has looked quick all day, then moved into second with Chinese driver David Zhu also running well on his debut with P9, just ahead of Jose Luis Abadin.

In the last few moments though, Fontana put in a time of 1:49.705s to secure the top spot by the narrowest of margins, pushing the German into second place with McLaren Autosport Award finalist Zampareli impressing with third. That dropped Khani to fourth with Stoneman completing the top five ahead of Bacheta, Hurst and Axcil Jefferies. Zhu and Abadin held on to complete the top 10.

The final of today's four sessions gets underway at 16:15 where drivers will be able to use their overboost facility. For more information and live timing visit www.formulatwo.com.
