Markus Pommer goes quickest in second F2 test session

Wednesday, March 28 2012

German Markus Pommer repeated his earlier form to go quickest during the second Formula Two test session at the Silverstone GP circuit.

The 21-year-old, who steps up to the series from German F3, posted a quicker time of 1:48.564s to edge out Romanian Mihai Marinescu with Luciano Bacheta completing the top three.

The sun continued to shine for the second one-hour session with previous pace-setter Pommer once again leading the way closely followed by Marinescu and Christopher Zanella. Newcomers Axcil Jefferies and Kourosh Khani were also showing good pace lying seventh and ninth respectively at the halfway stage.

Iranian driver Khani then briefly moved up to fifth before 2010 F2 champion edged him out on his return to the Williams designed F2 car since being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Briton Hector Hurst then put in a strong lap to go third quickest before spinning and causing the session to be halted with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

Just a handful of drivers returned to the track when the session resumed with Marinescu eager to better Pommer's time but was forced to settle for P2 with Bacheta third. 19-year-old Hurst secured P4 with Stoneman rounding out the top five.

Christopher Zanella finished sixth ahead of Daniel McKenzie and Formula Renault BARC graduate Khani. Zimbabwean Axcil Jefferies and Plamen Kralev completed the top 10 before the lunch interval.

The third of today's four sessions gets underway at 14:30 with full coverage, including live timing, on www.formulatwo.com
