Ginetta teams optimise GT warm-up opportunity at Brands Hatch

Sunday, June 24 2012

Optimum Motorsport's Ginetta G55 headed the Avon Tyres British GT Championship field in the warm up session ahead of this afternoon's race at Brands Hatch today (Sunday). One of three Ginettas in the top ten, the Spark Racing G55 sandwiched the RJN team's Nissan GTR, whilst not a single Ferrari made the top ten.

Overnight rain meant that the track was damp but drying around the Indy circuit, however the Grand Prix section, under cover of trees, was sure to be a little trickier. With better weather forecast for the afternoon, there was still some value in taking to the track in case of showers later in the day.

RJN headed the early running, the Nissan benefitting from the damp track but even so the Trackspeed team were running second with David Ashburn and Nicolas Armindo in the trickier rear-engined Porsche. However more than a second separated them on times.

In third was the Optimum Motorsport Ginetta G55, and with a minute to go they took the top slot by two tenths, stretching the margin a little on their final tour. Behind the RJN Nissan, Stark put a second G55 in the top three, with the United Autosports Audi also demoting the leading Trackspeed car. Motorbase's Porsche of Daniele Perfetti and Michael Caine was sixth fastest from the JMH Nissan, Preci-Spark Mercedes and Ecurie Ecosse BMW, whilst WFR made it three Ginettas in the top ten.

In GT4, Lotus Sport headed Jota's Mazda by over two seconds. The 2-hour British GT race will take place at 14:10.
