Day two of Oulton Park Gold Cup promises a further feast of action

Monday, August 27 2012

The second and final day of the Oulton Park Gold Cup (Monday) is all set to surpass an excellent opener, with a further nine races starting from 11:30am. Before then there is a chance to enjoy qualifying action on track and many superb attractions around the circuit.

Rally demonstrations, including spectacular Group B machinery can be found on the venue's special stage, located behind the paddock. Meanwhile a few yards away opposite Chequers Restaurant there will be a 60s and 70s disco, with driver interviews taking place nearby on the MSV stand in the trade village. With free entry to the event for children aged 12 and under, there is a crèche within the restaurant for one to eight year-olds as well as free face painting.

Once the racing gets underway there will be a special grid walk before the headline Derek Bell Trophy event, which will be open only to spectators arriving in 60s and 70s period dress. Anyone intending to take part in this free of charge event will need to head to the race control building at the start of the pitlane by 12:45pm at the latest.

The Derek Bell Trophy, featuring Formula 5000 cars that once raced in the Gold Cup, will commence at 1:15pm and is sure to be a great spectacle. It follows the popular Historic Touring Car race, which takes place before the lunch break and will feature big American muscle cars, including Mustangs and Falcons taking on their European counterparts, traditionally quicker in the circuit's many corners.

Sportscar action will take up much of the afternoon's schedule, with the Martini Trophy for 2 litre sports racers, the second part of the E-Type challenge and the Stirling Moss Trophy for 50s racers. There will be a second Derek Bell Trophy race at 4:20pm, whilst more saloon car action comes from the JD Classics Challenge for classic European Touring Cars. Formula Fords will provide further variety from historic single seaters.
