Novice riders prepare for debut at Cadwell Park this weekend

Wednesday, April 25 2012

The brand new Club MSV Bike Trackday Trophy series for novice riders kicks off this Sunday (29 April) at Cadwell Park. The series follows a hugely successful initiative for trackday drivers that has seen over 100 of them enter the world of competitive motorsport.

Track activities will commence at 9am with an hour's practice and qualifying session for the 25 solo teams. This will be closely followed by a one and a half hour practice session for the multi-rider teams. The first race will start at 12:45, which will be a 45 minute encounter for solo riders, in which a mandatory pitstop must be taken between 15 and 30 minutes into the race. The three-hour race for teams of up to three riders, in which at least 50% of each team must be a novice, will start at 2pm following the lunch break.

There will be four classes per race with trophies being awarded to first, second and third in each class. Two classes for bikes made during or before 1999 and those built after 2000 are sub-divided into two classes based on engine capacity and cylinder numbers.

Club MSV's Manager Alex Baker said: "Two years ago we launched the Car Trackday Trophy which has been an overwhelming success and now we have replicated this formula for bikes. We have thousands of riders taking part in our trackdays each year and with the introduction of the new series we'll be able to help riders from the first time they ride their bike on a race track, through their race training and preparation, all the way up to being sat on the grid waiting for the lights to go out.

"The No Budget Cup endurance race series for novice racers ran across two rounds in the UK last year and the format was obviously well received with full grids at both rounds. However, they are not returning to the UK in 2012 and now we're in a position to offer a series for their riders to compete in with a few modest changes to the format and regulations."

Club MSV have also enlisted the help of Fast Bikes magazine as Richard Newland from the publication explains: "The magazine has been involved with the Trackday Trophy from the start, and our experience with novice race series has proven that the hardest part of going racing is taking the decision to do it. It's like the ultimate trackday - but you're actively encouraged to race. This isn't about £100,000 bikes, sponsorship deals, or electronics packages - this is about the purity of racing against other relative newbies, in a class of similar bikes, and beating them to the chequered flag. The prize is satisfaction, achievement, and the buzz that will last with you for days afterwards. The racing should be fantastic, too."

Tickets for the Club MSV Bike Trackday Trophy are available on the gate for £13, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information, call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
