Monras goes top in rain-soaked third session

Thursday, October 27 2011

Miki Monras topped the timesheets during today's (Thursday) rain-soaked third FIA Formula Two test session in Barcelona, just ahead of Jack Clarke and Christopher Zanella.

The Spaniard made the best of the very difficult track conditions, which saw a total of three red flags, to post a time of 2:05.629s around the 4.655km Circuit de Catalunya.

After enjoying dry conditions this morning, the drivers exited the pits for the 50 minute session to a downpour with Mikkel Mac bringing out an early red flag.

The session was soon restarted with Tobias Hegewald, Benjamin Lariche and Kelvin Snoeks also looking quick despite the lack of the grip. With less than 20 minutes remaining a second red flag came out, this time for Alex Brundle and Mihai Marinescu, before Thiemo Storz caused the third shortly after.

Green flags were waved with just a few minutes left on the clock but positions remained unchanged with no one able to better Monras' best time set early on.

Hegewald ended the session fourth fastest just ahead of Lariche in fifth and Snoeks sixth. The returning Jose Luis Abadin, on home soil this weekend, picked up seventh spot with Marinescu eighth, Brit James Cole ninth and Max Snegirev completing the top 10.

The final test session gets underway at 17:05 (local time) with full coverage on the official F2 website.
