Bortolotti fastest in session four of Barcelona test

Thursday, October 27 2011

Mirko Bortolotti completed today's pre-race test at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya with the fastest time in the final session. Held on a damp but drying track, there were four red flag interruptions, leaving little time to dial in the cars for the changing conditions.

Pacesetter Miki Monras had been fastest for much of the session, as he had all day. However as the track dried, Jack Clarke took second, followed by a quick lap from Bortolotti that beat Monras' best effort by a second. He later improved his time, as Clarke and then Benjamin Lariche bettered Monras, who seemed unable to take advantage of the conditions.

Kelvin Snoeks was fifth, followed by Christopher Zanella, who will be aiming to protect second place in the championship. Mikkel Mac followed, with Brits Alex Brundle and James Cole next. Tobias Hegewald completed the top ten.

The reg flags came within ten minutes, as Storz needed assistance. 15 minutes later Clark and Brundle were stranded. Not long after Abadin had halted the running, whilst Lariche had a problem with five minutes remaining.

The combined times show that Bortolotti was second quickest overall in the test, just two tenths off the ultimate pace, as the first session provided the best conditions. Monras and Bortolotti were a second clear of Brundle, Snoeks and Lariche, whilst Clarke took sixth fastest overall in the second session.

Hegewald, Mihai Marinescu, Mac and Thiemo Storz complete the top ten and establish a good platform from which to enter the first practice session on Friday morning (28 October) at 10:20 local time.
