Monras fastest in first Barcelona test session

Thursday, October 27 2011

Miki Monras was fastest in the first of today's four test sessions ahead of this weekend's final FIA Formula Two rounds in Spain. Monras will be aiming to regain third place in the championship at his home race with his time 0.198s quicker than second place and 2011 Champion Mirko Bortolotti.

Monras was fast from the moment the cars were released from the pitlane at the Circuit de Catalunya, soon lapping in the 1:40 seconds bracket, before breaking into the 1:39s. With good track conditions on a dry but overcast morning, he took another second off that by the time the session was over, as the others reduced their lap times.

Bortolotti made a good start to the day but will be keen to reduce the gap during the day, whilst Alex Brundle, Kelvin Snoeks and Benjamin Lariche all performed well. Tobias Hegewald was next in sixth place, followed by Mihai Marinescu, building upon his maiden pole and win at Monza last time out.

Jack Clarke was eighth quickest, as he bids for a strong finish to the season, ahead of Thiemo Storz and Christopher Zanella, who will be protecting his second place in the championship.

The second test session gets underway at 10:00am local time.
