Bortolotti Williams F1 test gets underway

Thursday, November 17 2011

Mirko Bortolotti's test with the Williams Formula One team, his reward for winning the 2011 FIA Formula Two Championship, is currently underway in Abu Dhabi, and the Italian recorded the eighth fastest time in the morning session after concentrating on aerodymanic evaluation and installation laps.

The 21-year-old Italian climbed into the cockpit of the Williams' FW33 machine on the third and final day of the young driver tests at the Yas Marina circuit, taking over from Valtteri Bottas, who enjoyed two full days of running.

Under the watchful eye of Williams F1 Data Engineer Jonathan Eddolls, Bortolotti quickly acclimatised himself with the car and steadily improved his times throughout the session.

Red Bull's Jean-Eric Vergne set the overall pace ahead of Ferrari's Jules Bianchi and Oliver Turvey in the McLaren.

Testing continues later today with full reports on the official F2 website www.formulatwo.com. You can also view Mirko Bortolotti's full driver profile here.
