Soheil Ayari and Nicolas Marroc on pole for GT Open race two at Brands Hatch

Saturday, July 23 2011

Soheil Ayari and Nicolas Marroc will start race two of the International GT Open series at Brands Hatch from pole position. The JMB Racing Ferrari pairing nearly lost the place to qualifying one's fastest, Andrea Montermini and Emmanuele Moncini but were quicker on their final lap.

The session started with the GTS class cars out on track, however after 5 minutes, another red flag was called for an incident involving the JMB Racing Ferrari of Pascal Ballay and Nicolas Misslin. Gianluca Roda and Fabio Babini's Porsche 997 held the fastest time in the early running.

Daniel Brown/Glynn Geddie and David Ashburn/Stephen Jelley were also in the running, with Peter Bamford/Alex Mortimer's Ford GT then posting fastest time after ten minutes as the Super GT cars joined in the action.

Once again the faster GT2-spec cars took their time to build up speed and the Ford GT remained at the top for a while. With the Alexander Talkanitsa/Alexander Talkanitsa Jr car off at Druids, a full course yellow covered the circuit, just as the number 1 Ferrari of Alessandro Garafono/Luca Rangoni spun once more at Graham Hill bend. This time the Ferrari rejoined immediately but the green flag did not return until there were just 11 minutes remaining.

Finally, with 8 minutes to go a Super GT car held provisional pole as Garofano/Rangoni posted the fastest time. However, it immediately fell into the gravel at Paddock Hill and the red flag was called out, leaving just seven minutes for the rest to respond.

A busy track for the final moments meant that finding time was difficult but first Soheil Ayari/Nicolas Marroc took pole by a couple of tenths then Andrea Montermini/Emmanuele Moncini went second, before recording the fastest lap. However Ayari/Marroc were just behind and nearly two tenths quicker.
