Club MSV launches Team Trophy

Thursday, February 24 2011

Following the successful launch of its Trackday Trophy novice racing series in 2010, Club MSV is pleased to announce that it will be starting a new race series - the Club MSV Team Trophy - in 2011.

The Team Trophy is designed to provide 2010 Trackday Trophy competitors with the next step in their motorsport career, as well as offering experienced club racers an informal and cost-effective opportunity to go racing.

It will cater for production and production-based saloons, hatchbacks and sports cars manufactured post 1994, operating four power-to-weight classes up to 200bhp/ton. Pre-1994 vehicles belonging to previous or current Trackday Trophy competitors will also be eligible to compete.

Alex Baker, Club MSV Manager, explains the rationale behind the new series: "Over the last 12 months we have been approached by many relatively experienced club racers wanting to enter the Trackday Trophy. However, because the series is for novice racers and one driver in each team must have competed in less than six races before, we have had to turn them down.

"Also, some Trackday Trophy competitors have become too experienced to enter the series again but they love its format and the relaxed, friendly and informal atmosphere.

"Then MSVR, the racing division of MotorSport Vision, approached Club MSV earlier this year with the idea of starting a series to cater for post-1994 saloons and sports cars. It seemed like the ideal opportunity to combine their objective with our growing demand for a graduate series to the Trackday Trophy."

The inaugural Team Trophy will comprise of three events at the new Snetterton 300 circuit in May, Donington Park in August and Brands Hatch in October. The series will follow the same one-day format as the Trackday Trophy, including a 45 minute race featuring mandatory pit-stops and driver swaps, although drivers are not required to be novices.

"We've created what we believe will be an exciting, informal and cost-effective new challenge for club racers," Baker added. "We look forward to seeing many familiar faces from this and last year's Trackday Trophy and welcoming some new competitors as well!"
