Audi name fresh driver line up for 2011 DTM Season

Friday, February 25 2011

Audi has named three of its drivers for the upcoming DTM season, with the intention of reclaiming the crown it surrendered to Mercedes last season.

Portuguese driver Filipe Albuquerque, Italian Edoardo Mortara and Swiss Rahel Frey were announced earlier this week after impressing at sighting tests held by Audi in December.

"All three made an excellent impression in December" said Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. "I'm convinced that they will be a genuine reinforcement to our driver squad and that we are in a good position for the 2011 season."

Albuquerque is more known for being a single seater racer, having participated in World Series by Renault, A1GP and GP2, while also flirting with GT cars. He stunned the motorsport world at the end of 2010 by beating F1 champion Sebastian Vettel and multiple Rally champion Sebastian Loeb to the coveted Race of Champions crown.

Mortara is another single seater convert, and is the reigning Formula Three Euro Series champion, and the only man to twice win the Macau Formula Three Grand Prix, while Frey is the first woman to win a German Formula Three race, having also competed at Le Mans in 2010.

Mortara and Albuquerque will drive for Audi Sport Team Rosberg, while Frey will partner Martin Tomczyk at Audi Sport Team Phoenix.

British driver Oliver Jarvis will also drive for Audi, with fellow countrymen Gary Paffett and David Coukthard widely expected to remain in the DTM in 2011.

The only British round of the DTM German Touring Cars will take place at Brands Hatch on 2-4 September. Raceday tickets are now available from £25 for adults with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click on the link below.
