160mph Superkarts warm up for season with Oulton Park test

Wednesday, February 16 2011

More than 20 machines from the British Superkart Championship gathered at Oulton Park on Tuesday, to blow away the cobwebs with a pre-season test before their 2011 season begins next month.

Four categories of Superkart were represented and the fastest time of the day was set by circuit local Chris Needham from Altringham. Chris lapped the International circuit in just 1m40.5s, despite damp weather conditions meaning he was unable to fully extricate the maximum 95bhp from his 250cc twin cylinder engine. Chris will be taking part in the National Division 1 Championship this season, along with the FIA CIK European Superkart Championship.

Other notable competitors at the pre-season test included Mark Bramell, who is returning to Division 1 Superkarts after a four year hiatus, during which he took up car racing.

There were also several MSA Championship 250 National Superkarts on track, including brothers Toby and Ben Davis, whilst Danny Butler, Dan Edwards and Jason Kitchin represented the 125 Open category - the latter enjoying his first run in a Superkart since last June.

Superkarts provide some of the most daredevil racing on the Oulton Park calendar, with some high specification machinery reaching speeds of up to 160mph despite being just two inches from the ground! The series will return to Cheshire for its season finale in September.

Oulton Park will host the season finale of the British Superkart Championship on Saturday 24 September. Tickets are now on sale from £10 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click on the link below.
