Hill victorious as Title Fighter battle intensifies

Monday, August 29 2011

Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill secured the second race win of the weekend at Cadwell Park as he claimed a further three podium credits to fend off the challenges from Michael Laverty and Shane 'Shakey' Byrne with the final race ahead of the Showdown still to come this afternoon.

Hill said: "It is another fantastic result for Swan Yamaha and I knew it would be a long race so to win that one was great and I am really chuffed. I just rode my own race and it is crucial to get every lap inch perfect here but the boys kept the pressure on me throughout. It was a great job by the Swan Yamaha team after finishing second yesterday so we will see what we can do in the next race. I have had a bit of pain in my shoulder during that race, so I will get some ice on that and then will be all set for race two."

The Swan Yamaha pair again got off to a flying start with Hill and Laverty recommencing their battle from yesterday's race with Hill leading into Coppice from his team-mate with Josh Brookes in third and Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in fourth. Laverty wasn't going to remain there for long though as he moved into the lead with a pass in to Charlies, which Byrne repeated on Brookes behind them.

Hill was then looking to regain the lead and on the second lap he stormed down the inside at Barn to take the lead from Laverty. Byrne behind the pair had a moment on the HM Plant Honda but was able to hold third as Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati's Michael Rutter retired at the end of the fourth lap as Byrne moved ahead of Laverty to claim second place.

A lap later Laverty was preparing for his attack on Byrne and he took the advantage into Park to move second again behind his team-mate Hill. Alex Lowes meanwhile crashed the MSS Colchester Kawasaki at the Chicane after running sixth place over the opening laps.

Hill then edged out an advantage but Laverty and Byrne was dicing for second place with the Swan Yamaha able to maintain the position ahead of the standings leader whilst Brookes withstood the challenge from Peter Hickman on the Tyco Honda to finish fourth, but still yet to confirm his position as at Title Fighter in the Showdown.

Jon Kirkham on the lone Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki fought his way to sixth ahead of Martin Jessopp on the Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati after he took the place from Graeme Gowland on the 16th lap at Coppice as Ryuichi Kiyonari closed. The defending champion was unable to make a move on the Mirror.co.uk BSB Evo race winner over the final laps but Gary Mason took tenth position from James Ellison on the final lap. It was a disappointing race for Tommy Bridewell who crashed out on the Motorpoint Yamaha at Mansfield on the ninth lap.
