Renault Clio Cup racer to make BTCC debut at Brands Hatch

Monday, September 27 2010

21-year-old Renault Clio Cup race winner Sam Tordoff will make his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship debut at the Brands Hatch season finale in association with Honda Racing on 9/10 October.

Tordoff will line up alongside James Nash at Triple Eight Racing Engineering, becoming the sixth driver to pilot a Vauxhall Vectra for the squad this season. He follows in the footsteps of double champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, Phil Glew, Daniel Lloyd and Jeff Smith.

Sam has demonstrated impressive form in his 2010 Clio Cup campaign, finishing on the podium in 12 of this year's 18 races, including a race win at Silverstone.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed myself in the Elf Renault Clio Cup this year and have now secured third place in the championship with two rounds left. Although, theoretically at least, I could still finish second, the opportunity to drive the Triple 8 Vectra in the last round of the BTCC is too good an opportunity to miss," said Tordoff. "The Vectra is a proven race winning car in the right hands and although I don't expect to be visiting the podium I think a top 10 finish should be possible.

"I've got one day's testing at Snetterton next week to familiarise myself with the car and the team and can't wait to get started," he added.

The move follows Triple Eight's announcement earlier this week that it plans on expanding its 2011 campaign to include an entry into the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on 9/10 October are on sale now from £24 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
