MG Car Club gears up for season finale at Snetterton

Monday, September 27 2010

The MG Car Club visits Snetterton this weekend for its season finale, and the MG Trophy Championship will once again be decided at the death with no fewer than three drivers all with a mathematical chance of winning the title.

The MG Trophy caters for all modern MGs with 4 classes including purpose built 190bhp ZRs, MGF/TFs and LE500 race cars as well as road legal versions.

Paul Streather currently holds the advantage in his maiden assault on the championship driving a ZR160, with the battle for second as close as it could possibly be. Current champion Chris Bray in his ZR190 and LE 500 driver Paul Luti are tied on points, both having been embroiled in a season-long battle for outright race wins and have rarely been far apart.

Snetterton has historically been the last race on the MGCC calendar for many years and has seen some frantic action in previous finales, notably in the last two events where unusual weather played its part in providing some dramatic racing.

The Peter Best Insurance Challenge which features a huge range of MG machinery also holds its deciding rounds this weekend, with James Walpole currently leading the way, but the Simon Tinkler and Peter Andrews pairing are within touching distance.

The MG Midget Challenge for post war Midgets and Austin Healey Sprites will race this weekend with three classes for full race modified cars as well as road going models.

The Drayton Manor Park Metro Cup is another highlight, and expect to see a range of Metros ranging from Turbos to the most basic Rover 100s.

Adding to the excitement is the Thoroughbred Sports Car Championship, MGCC BCV8 Championship, Power Torque Morgan Challenge, Equipe GTS and a four hour event from the British Motor Heritage Four Hour Relay.

Tickets for the MG Car Club at Snetterton on 2/3 October are available from £10 for adults, with free entry for children ages 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
