Lester/Simonsen Ferrari flying in free practice two

Saturday, September 25 2010

After setting the pace earlier this morning, the Ferrari 430 Scuderia of Hector Lester and Allan Simonsen once again topped the timesheets in free practice two of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

The similar Ferrari 430 of Phil Burton and Adam Wilcox was the first car to lead the field during the hour-long session, however Simonsen quickly steered his Ferrari to first place and he and Lester remained untroubled for the remainder of the session.

Burton and Wilcox secured second, whilst the Preci Spark Ascari of David and Godfrey Jones equalled their free practice one performance to take second.

Michael Bentwood and Paul Whight's Aston Martin was fourth quickest, ahead of Archie Hamilton and Ryan Lewis, who were the quickest of the three Chad Racing Ferraris in fifth. Fellow Chad Racing drivers Paul Warren and Tom Ferrier finished eighth, with Chris Hyman and Dan Brown rounding out the top ten.

There was drama for the championship leading Trackspeed Porsche 911 of David Ashburn and Glynn Geddie, which stopped out on track at Hawthorn Bend with mechanical problems during the session. This caused a red flag to be thrown - the first of two, as free practice was later stopped when Julian Draper's Ginetta G50 went off at Clark Curve.

The second Trackspeed Porsche in the hands of Philip Walker finished in ninth place.

Qualifying takes place at 3.25pm today.
