Daniel McKenzie clinches British F3 race two honours

Sunday, September 26 2010

Fortec's Daniel McKenzie breezed to victory in the second encounter of the Cooper Tires British F3 Series at Brands Hatch today (Sunday 26 September), after his main challenger Hitech's Will Buller spun away on the opening lap.

McKenzie started from pole position after the reverse grid draw decided race one's seventh place finisher should inherit the top spot. He made a strong start to lead into the first corner, although fellow front row starter Buller pressured him all the way to Druids.

The pair went through the corner almost side by side, before Buller span out of contention on cold tyres and dropped to the back of the field.

As McKenzie began to build a comfortable lead over the rest of the field, Double R's Carlos Huertas edged away into second with Adriano Buzaid in third.

2010 champion Jean-Eric Vergne made a storming start to rise four places on the opening lap, and the Frenchman then made a determined effort to chase down Buzaid for a podium finish. However, Vergne was unable to pass his Brazilian rival and settled for fourth at the chequered flag.

Behind Vergne, his team-mate James Calado fended off fellow Carlin driver Rupert Svendsen-Cook to secure fifth - and with it second in the overall championship standings, as main rival Fortec's Oliver Webb finished two places adrift in seventh position.

Double R's Daisuke Nakajima claimed eighth ahead of a charging Felipe Nasr, who set the fastest lap of the race. T-Sport's Alex Brundle rounded out the top ten.

Race three will take place at 3.50pm.
