British GTs warm up for penultimate round at Brands Hatch

Sunday, September 26 2010

The penultimate round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will take place on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit today (Sunday 26 September), and the Trackspeed Porsche 911 of Richard Westbrook set the pace in morning warm-up.

Westbrook missed yesterday's practice and qualifying sessions as he was competing at the Nurburgring, which means he will start from the back of the grid for today's second race. However, the Chelmsford-born driver laid a commanding gauntlet during the ten minute warm-up session to edge ahead of Hector Lester and Allan Simonsens Ferrari 430 by four tenths of a second.

David and Godfrey Jones' Preci Spark Ascari was third quickest, ahead of the Aston Martin DBRS9 of Andrew Howard and Leo Machitski.

Chris Hyman and Dan Brown set the fifth fastest time in their Chad Racing Ferrari, followed by Phil Burton and Adam Wilcox's Ferrari and the Paul Whight/Michael Bentwood Aston Martin.

The second Chad Racing Ferrari of Paul Warren and Tom Ferrier finished eighth, with Mtech Ferrari's Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin ninth. Chris Bialan and Simon Mason's Lotus 2-Eleven was the quickest G4 runner in tenth place.

The championship-leading Trackspeed Porsche 911 did not take part in the warm-up session, whilst it is unlikely that Archie Hamilton and Ryan Lewis' Chad Racing Ferrari will take part in today's races following a heavy qualifying crash yesterday.
