Burt and Levett lead Trucks out at Brands Hatch

Saturday, October 30 2010

Brian Burt's Volvo White and the MAN of Chris Levett set the pace in warm up for this weekend's Delphi British Truck Racing Championship finale at Brands Hatch today (Saturday).

There was an interrupted start to the day in Class B's 15 minute warm up session, as Oly Janes' Seddon Atkinson crashed heavily at Druids on its first flying lap, which caused a stoppage period whilst the vehicle was removed and the tyre barrier repaired. At the point when the red flag was shown, Burt led the pack with a fastest time of 1m09.517s

Following the restart, drivers had just five minutes to perfect their set-up and although the majority improved their times, no driver was able to surpass Burt. Local racer Steven Powell from West Kingsdown set the second quickest time ahead of Carl Brookfield's ERF.

This weekend's Class B encounters will feature several guest entries including Ginetta G50 Champion Frank Wrathall, who spun at Surtees at the end of his debut warm up session.

As a result of the earlier stoppage, Class A then took to the track for a truncated 10 minute warm up session, where Chris Levett's smartly-liveried MAN topped the timesheets early on before a sudden downpour erupted over the Indy circuit.

Newly-crowned champion Stuart Oliver was six tenths of a second behind Levett in second quickest position, with David Jenkins' Sisu third fastest.

The format for this weekend's four races have been altered slightly, as the top four finishers in Saturday's Class B race will advance to the Class A outing on Sunday morning.

This will be followed by a Championship Final race in which all Class A competitors and the top 11 Class B drivers from race one take part, before a non points-scoring Grand Final featuring the top 18 quickest qualifiers in a reverse grid format.
