Le Mans winner Darren Turner to compete at Masters Historic Festival

Tuesday, May 25 2010

Former Le Mans 24 hour winner and endurance racing star Darren Turner will swap sports cars for classic saloons this weekend (29/30/31 May) when he steps behind the wheel of a 1960s Mini at the Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival.

Turner's main focus this year is competing for Aston Martin Racing in the FIA GT1 World Championship after successful outings in a variety of championships including Le Mans Series, British Touring Cars, DTM and a test role with the McLaren F1 team during his extensive career.

His next challenge will be racing for Aston Martin at the Le Mans 24 hours - which he won in 2008 - next month. However, Darren is taking time away from his busy sports car schedule to race a classic Austin Mini Cooper S alongside multiple Mini Miglia champion Andrew Hack.

The pairing will compete in the Masters Series' new one make competition for pre-66 Minis on Saturday, before going up against more powerful saloons in a 60 minute pre-66 Touring Car race on Bank Holiday Monday.

"I'm really looking forward to making my Masters Series debut," said Turner. "I raced a similar car with Andrew at Goodwood last September and I know how competitive historic racing can be!"

Tickets for the Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch on 29/30/31 May are available from £10 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
