Andrew Jordan's Vectra sets the pace in BTCC mid-season test

Wednesday, May 26 2010

Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan is shaping up to be a strong podium contender for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship's annual visit to Oulton Park on 5/6 June, after steering his next generation-engined Vauxhall Vectra to the top of the timesheets in a mid-season test.

Less than half a second separated the top eight runners, with 21-year-old Jordan just one thousandth of a second ahead of joint championship leader Silverline Chevrolet's Jason Plato. However, Plato's main title rival Honda Racing's Matt Neal was close behind his nemesis in fourth place.

"We've got rid of the understeer on turn-in, which bodes well for the BTCC's next round at Oulton Park," said pace-setter Jordan. "The changes we've made also make the car kinder on its tyres so I'm delighted with today."

Alongside Jordan, two further young guns - Triple Eight's James Nash and Plato's team-mate Alex MacDowall - also performed well to finish the day in third and fifth position respectively, whilst former Renault Clio racer Daniel Lloyd finished an impressive seventh in only his second British Touring Car outing.

Team Aon's Tom Chilton set the sixth fastest time, demonstrating that the LPG-powered Ford Focus still has strong pace despite new restrictions applied to its engine, whilst his team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole rounded out the top ten.

The test also saw former BTCC racer James Thompson back behind the wheel of a Honda Civic, as he shared testing duties with regular Honda Racing Team driver Gordon Shedden. Thommo set the ninth quickest time, behind Shedden in eighth.

The BTCC will be back in action at Oulton Park on 5/6 June for three exciting races, plus support action from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Formula Renault UK, Ginetta G50 Cup, Renault Clio Cup and Ginetta Junior Championship.
