Williams sets the Snetterton practice pace

Friday, June 25 2010

2010 Formula Palmer Audi rookie Jordan Williams has topped the final practice session of the day at Snetterton.

The Devonian performed well on his FPA debut at Brands Hatch in May, scoring a fourth place finish and two further top eight positions. Currently lying fifth in the overall standings, Williams left it late to set the ultimate benchmark here at the Norfolk venue ahead of tomorrow's opening qualifying session.

Early pace-setter Nigel Moore had to settle for second after setting a time 0.010s slower than his session one effort. Italian Giuseppe Cipriani finished third in both sessions and is again showing continued improvement behind the wheel of an FPA car.

Championship leader Maxime Jousse lowered his time from his session one flying lap, but he was unable to improve his position - the Frenchman ended up fourth, just 0.010s behind Cipriani.

Ramon Pineiro and Brands Hatch race winner Melroy Heemskerk were fifth and sixth respectively. Promising British youngster Howard Fuller finished just behind them in seventh, with only 0.050s separating the trio.

Frenchman Vincent Beltoise improved his lap time by more than half a second from his earlier performance and ended the session in eighth, with Kieran Vernon and James Thorp rounding out the top ten.

Series returnee Callum Holland and 2009 race winner Jose Alonso Liste were among the notable absentees from the top ten, although with times being so close throughout the day, both drivers were only just over a second off the pace.

The Formula Palmer Audi field will be back on track at 9:30am tomorrow morning (Saturday) for the opening qualifying session before embarking on the first ever four-race FPA weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will commence with a qualifying session ahead of two races later in the day. Driver's fastest qualifying laps will set the grid for the first race of the day, and their second fastest qualifying lap will make up the order for race two.

The official Formula Palmer Audi website will provide the latest news, reports and results throughout the weekend.
