Bumper grid for Club MSV Trackday Trophy at Snetterton

Friday, June 25 2010

After attracting more than 20 entries for its inaugural event at Brands Hatch in March, the Club MSV Trackday Trophy will feature a 26-strong field when the novice racing series arrives at Snetterton this Sunday (27 June).

Among the bumper grid competing this weekend are nine new teams including Fifth Gear presenter Jonny Smith, who will be making his racing debut at the Norfolk circuit in a Porsche 944 S2 after passing his ARDS National B racing licence test just two weeks ago.

Another novice in the media spotlight this Sunday is CAR Magazine's road test editor Ben Barry who, despite testing hundreds of vehicles on the public roads, has only raced once before. Ben will take to the track in an E36 BMW M3 that he has owned since 2001 and that he converted for track use five years ago.

Other newcomers making their Trackday Trophy debut at Snetterton this weekend include Paul Walters and Chris Lewis in a Mini Cooper S, 18-year-old Michael Buxton - who only passed his driving test in November 2009 - in a Citroen Saxo and father and son team Rob and David Jones in a Volkswagen Golf GTI.

"We're really looking forward to welcoming nine new teams to the Trackday Trophy at Snetterton this Sunday, three of which consist of drivers who have never raced before," said Club MSV Manager Alex Baker. "For those that did race in the inaugural round at Brands Hatch, Snetterton will provide an exciting new challenge with its long straights and high speed corners. The forecast for the weekend is also looking good so it should be an enjoyable day for both drivers and spectators!"

Among the returning competitors this weekend is opening round winner Jim Cameron in his BMW M and podium finisher Paul Abercrombie, who will pilot a Renault Clio 182 with new co-driver Kye Wheatley.

As well as racing from the Club MSV Trackday Trophy, this weekend's meeting at Snetterton will feature the Formula Palmer Audi Championship and the GT Cup Championship.

Tickets for the Formula Palmer Audi and GT Cup Championships featuring the Club MSV Trackday Trophy cost £12 for adults on the gate, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
