Andy Priaulx: "There's no better place to score big points than your home race!"

Friday, June 25 2010

Brands Hatch will host its first major international event of the 2010 season when the FIA World Touring Car and Formula Two Championships roar into Kent on 16/17/18 July, and leading British hope Andy Priaulx is eyeing up a WTCC victory on home soil after winning at Zolder in Belgium last weekend.

Triple champion Priaulx - who won the WTCC in 2005, 2006 and 2007 - has already scored three victories this season in his Team RBM BMW 320si and is now within 23 points of championship front-runners Chevrolet's Yvan Muller and SR Sport SEAT's Gabriele Tarquini in third position.

The WTCC will pay a visit to Portimao in Portugal next weekend before arriving at Brands Hatch in July and with 50 points available per race weekend, Priaulx is confident he will touch down in the UK in a strong championship position.

"It's been a really good start to the year as I've won races at the last three rounds and I'm in with a chance to fight for the title," said Priaulx. "Brands Hatch is going to be a crucial weekend because the track suits the BMW; we hope to score some big points and there's no better place to do that than at your home race!

"I look forward to racing at Brands Hatch every year as there's always a good atmosphere and a great crowd," he added.

However, Priaulx's victory aspirations will be challenged by a strong field of international talents including fellow Britons Chevrolet's Rob Huff - who lies just one point behind Andy in the championship standings - Bamboo Racing's Harry Vaulkhard and reigning British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington, who will make a sensational wild card return to UK racing in a West Surrey Racing BMW.

Brands Hatch will host two World Touring Car races, including an exciting reverse grid for race two, along with two headline races from the FIA Formula Two Championship, an F1 feeder series. There will also be support action from the Trofeo Maserati Granturismo and the Lotus on Track Elise Trophy.

Tickets for the FIA World Touring Car and Formula Two Championships are now on sale from £24 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
