Reigning WTCC champion signs-up for 2010

Friday, February 19 2010

2009 World Touring Car Champion Gabriele Tarquini has confirmed that he will return to defend his title with the independent SR-Sport team.

Tarquini secured the title after taking three wins and a further eight podiums over the course of the season to beat team mate Yvan Muller to the title by just four points. Following SEATs withdrawal as a factory team, Tarquini has joined fellow 2009 works drivers Tiago Monteiro and Jordi Gene at the renamed SR-Sport team. Dutchman Tom Corconel completes the team's line-up.

Ex-Formula One driver Monteiro is pleased to have confirmed his return to the World Touring Car grid. "I'm really happy to be able to compete in the WTCC again and to be part of the SEAT family. Apart from F1, the WTCC is the championship with the greatest level of competition."

The four SEAT drivers will line up at the only British round of the series at Brands Hatch alongside three British drivers: Chevrolet's Rob Huff, BMW's Andy Priaulx and the Bamboo Engineering Chevrolet of Harry Vaulkhard.
