Brands Hatch helps online racers realise driving dream

Monday, February 22 2010

A student from Edinburgh and a computer programmer from Macclesfield came a step closer to realising their racing driver dreams last week, when they triumphed in the national final of the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy competition at Brands Hatch.

PlayStation launched a competition late last year in which computer game fans were invited to download a special stage of the new Gran Turismo 5 game and attempt to set a quick lap time.

The 20 fastest players were invited to Brands Hatch last week for the UK final, where two competitors were selected to proceed to the international final. The overall winner will receive a real-life drive in the 2010 European GT4 Cup, piloting an RJN Motorsport-prepared Nissan 370Z GT.

The finalists took part in a series of online races at the Kent circuit, and last year's competition winner Lucas Ordonez also gave the contestants a flying lap of the Indy circuit in a Nissan 370Z.

32-year-old programmer John Moorby from Macclesfield and 22-year-old student Alex Ingram triumphed in the gaming tests, and the two potential racers will now go through to a rigorous driver boot camp with other national finalists before the GT Academy grand final in March.

"I was nervous but I managed to hold on to my second place and I am really chuffed," said Alex Ingram. "I have been really determined since the start of GT Academy. I knew coming in here that everyone was very closely matched so I was confident that I had as good a chance as anyone but I am really delighted."

You can fulfil your driving dreams at Brands Hatch with a high speed RaceMaster or M3 Master circuit driving experience. Vouchers are available for £180 and are valid for 12 months. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
