Adam Wilcox secures pole position for race two

Sunday, August 29 2010

After setting the pace in free practice one, Adam Wilcox led home a trio of Ferraris to clinch pole position for the second of this weekend's Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Snetterton today (Sunday).

The session began with a flurry of flying laps, as a number of drivers clinched provisional pole - only for their times to be almost instantly bettered by another car.

As the session developed, the fight for pole position became a two horse race between the Ferrari 430s of Adam Wilcox and Matt Griffin, with Wilcox emerging victorious just over a tenth of a second ahead of his Mtech rival.

A tense battle developed for third on the grid, as the Team RPM Ford GT of Alex Mortimer went head-to-head with Allan Simonsen's Ferrari 430. A late flying lap looked as if Mortimer had the position secured, but a well-timed final effort from Simonsen clawed it back to secure a Ferrari 1-2-3 for race two.

Another Ferrari, that of Chad Racing with Tom Ferrier behind the wheel, will start from fifth place, ahead of the Preci-Spark Ascari of Godfrey Jones - who could not repeat the pole position heroics of twin brother David in qualifying one.

Michael Bentwood's Aston Martin set the seventh fastest time, whilst Aaron Scott's Dodge Viper took eighth after running as high as second place early on.

The Rollcentre Mosler of Gregor Fiskin secured ninth ahead of Christian Dick, who was the quickest G4 runner in tenth place.

There were woes for the Trackspeed Porsche 911 of Glynn Geddie, which retired to the pits after just three laps with an exhaust problem.

Racing begins at Snetterton tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) at 9.00am with warm-up from the Avon Tyres British GT Championship. Race one will take place at midday, with race two at 4.20pm.
