Olympic torch to lap Brands Hatch this summer!

Monday, March 19 2012

Full details of the Olympic Torch route, which includes a tour of the iconic Brands Hatch circuit, have been confirmed today (Monday) by LOCOG, the organisers of the London 2012 games. The route, which visits the entire UK, will travel through north west Kent, including Brands Hatch, on Friday 20 July on its final run into London.

Starting from Maidstone, the torch will head towards Gravesend, before being transported to Brands Hatch for 11:20am, where it will lap the circuit, before heading off to Sevenoaks for the next stage. Click here to view the full street-level route for the day.

The route recognises Brands Hatch's important role in the 2012 Games, as both a training camp for athletes and as a venue for the Paralympic Road Cycling events. In honour to the latter, the torch will be carried around the circuit on a Paralympic bicycle.

The torch visit will also coincide with the opening Friday of the summer round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. With an exciting championship in full swing, plus two local heroes in Shakey Byrne and reigning champion Tommy Hill, the ceremony is sure to be played out in front of a busy crowd.
