Lucas Foresti seals British F3 race two win

Sunday, May 15 2011

Fortec's Lucas Foresti made amends for a poor qualifying performance by clinching victory in the second outing of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series at Snetterton on Sunday.

A mistake in qualifying on Saturday led to Foresti damaging the under tray of his car, meaning he could only muster 14th on the grid for the series' first race on the new 2.99-mile 300 circuit.

However, a tenth place result in race one yielded pole position in the race two reverse grid draw, which the Brazilian converted into a convincing lights-to-flag victory - taking the chequered flag with a five second advantage.

It was a triple celebration for Fortec, as Foresti's team-mate Harry Tincknell made a strong start - passing the squad's third driver Will Buller for second position on the first run into Riches. The pair were nose-to-tail on occasions in the early stages of the race, however Buller settled for third after fourth placeman Hitech's Pietro Fantin began to close in on the duelling pair in the second half of the race. Tincknell's second position marks his best result to date in British F3.

Sino Vision's Hywel Lloyd enjoyed an assured but untroubled run to fifth ahead of race one podium finisher Carlin's Felipe Nasr, who made up three positions on the opening lap from his original ninth place on the grid.

Riki Christodoulou steered his Hitech Dallara to seventh, ahead of Carlin duo Carlos Huertas and race one winner Kevin Magnussen.

Huertas, however was issued with a three second post-race penalty, which dropped him to tenth in the final classification behind T-Sport's Yann Cunha.

There were three retirements: Carlin's Jack Harvey tangled with team-mate Jazeman Jaafar and T-Sport's Menasheh Idafar at Montreal on the opening lap, although the latter two managed to rejoin after a trip to the pit lane. Carlin's Rupert Svendsen-Cook pitted early in the race with a misfire, whilst Rookie Class driver T-Sports Bart Hylkema also retired on the opening lap.

Race three from the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series will take place at 4.15pm.
