O'Halloran scores twice and Brookes wins again

Monday, September 21 2020

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship took a trip to Oulton Park at the weekend for the fourth round of the season, with Jason O'Halloran taking a brace of victories plus a race win for Josh Brookes.

Starting from pole O'Halloran was quick off the line, however it was Glenn Irwin who had charged into the lead before the McAMS Yamaha rider reclaimed the position on the second tour round.

In a frantic battle for the win, just four laps later Christian Iddon took control of the race, after cutting his way through the field. Andrew Irwin was in hot pursuit, following in a close second place.

By lap ten O'Halloran had dropped to fourth, with Iddon having to defend from the Honda Racing duo of Andrew and Glenn Irwin in second and third.

However it wasn't to be for Iddon, with O'Halloran picking his way through the trio ahead, snatching victory by just 0.358 seconds.

O'Halloran enjoyed another trip to the top step of the podium in the second race of the weekend, edging out Iddon and Danny Buchan.

O'Halloran, who once again started from pole position, had Iddon for company throughout much of the race, with the VisionTrack Ducati rider finishing just 0.214 seconds behind.

Disaster struck for championship leader Glenn Irwin who was forced to retire due to a technical fault, dropping his 30-point lead to just five.

Josh Brookes secured his second victory of the season in the weekend's final race, with Iddon and Lee Jackson taking second and third respectively.

Brookes, who started from pole position, charged off of the line and held on to the race lead ahead of double race winner O'Halloran and teammate Iddon.

Iddon, who was hot on the back of O'Halloran, stormed into second place on lap three and began to hunt down the Australian. The two jostled for position, with multiple unsuccessful attacks from Iddon forcing him to settle for second place.

The fight for third went right down to the wire with Jackson snatching third from O'Halloran at the final corner, beating the McAMS Yamaha rider by just 0.096 seconds.
