Flipping heck! RAF man warms up at Donington for World Record try

Wednesday, December 18 2019

When taking on the challenges of Donington Park, most people would be content with a sports car or a motorcycle, but for a local RAF Flight Lieutenant, there was another way of lapping the circuit today (Wednesday).

West Bridgford's Daniel Garner is warming up for a new Guinness World Record in April 2020, when he hopes to flip a tyre weighing 100kg for 20km along the Victoria Embankment in Nottingham, during a challenge that could take up to 24 hours to complete.

The 37-year-old stepped up his preparations by flipping a 138kg tyre around the Donington Park Grand Prix circuit, which he completed in six hours and 35 minutes, despite icy cold conditions.

Having served in the RAF for 15 years, the Nottingham Forest fan is hoping to raise £10,000 for the Nottingham Hospitals University Charity.

Tyred but not deflated after his strenuous day at the circuit, he commented: "That was one of my hardest challenges yet in my training. The hills around the circuit made it really tiring, especially with the heavier tyre, but it's all good practice for the main event in April with the slightly lighter wheel. I'm really grateful to Donington Park for allowing me to do my latest warm-up ahead of my World Record attempt, and hopefully I can come back at some point before the challenge and see if I can beat my time!"
