Redding reigns supreme as Bennetts BSB heads to Brands

Sunday, October 06 2019

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship roars into Brands Hatch on 18-20 October for the 2019 season finale, with Scott Redding top of the standings after two double Showdown wins and three riders in with a chance of taking the title.

Redding is firmly in the box seat after victories at Assen and Donington Park in the first two rounds of the Showdown, and leads the championship by 28 points from his Be Wiser Ducati teammate Josh Brookes. Together with Oxford Racing Ducati's Tommy Bridewell, they'll battle it out over three races on the full Grand Prix circuit to decide the 2019 title.

Last year saw Leon Haslam put his demons to rest and lift the trophy for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team after losing out the previous year to six-time champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in the final race, prompting emotional scenes on the grid.

So what will this year's final Bennetts BSB race weekend have to offer? Redding is keen to take the title in his debut Bennetts BSB season before switching to the Superbike World Championship for 2020, but 2015 champion Brookes enjoyed success at the Kent circuit earlier this year and is determined to put up a fight.

Bridewell isn't to be underestimated either after a consistent year, so the Final Showdown promises plenty of on-track fireworks as the season reaches its crescendo.

Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings:

  1. Scott Redding (Be Wiser Ducati) 645
  2. Josh Brookes (Be Wiser Ducati) 617
  3. Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Racing Ducati) 580
  4. Danny Buchan (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) 559
  5. Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) 538
  6. Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing BMW) 530
